The San Francisco 49ers rewarded last seasons NFC rushing leader with a healthy contract extension. After Frank Gore ran for 1,695 yards in an otherwise anemic offense the 49ers knew it would be wise to keep their Pro-Bowl star happy. A four-year deal worth $14 million has a way of putting a smile on your face. The new deal will keep Gore in a 49ers uniform through 2011.
Gore was about the only offensive option San Francisco had last season as they finished 15th out of 16 NFC teams in passing but managed to have the third most productive rushing attack.
By setting a team-record in rushing yards Gore eclipsed some pretty big names that have passed through San Fran, Roger Craig and Ricky Watters among them. New York Giants running back, Tiki Barber, was the only other NFC rusher to average over 100 yards per game.
The 23-year-old Gore put together some monster games for San Fran last season. In a three game stretch he rushed for 159, 212 and 134 yards. The 49ers won just one game in which Gore didn’t surpass the 100 yard mark, a 9-3 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
