Head of Anti-Drug Trafficking Operations in Honduras Gunned Down

The head of anti-drug trafficking operations in Honduras was shot and killed by a pair of gunmen on Tuesday, one day after delivering a report concerning the movement of drugs within the country.

Retired Gen. Julian Aristides Gonzalez was travelling in his car in Tegucigalpa when the attackers approached on a motorcycle and opened fire. Gonzalez had been travelling alone and was not accompanied by any bodyguards.

Honduras is considered a major route for drugs as they move from South to North America and Gonzalez’s recent report was considered a threat to those involved in the drug trade.
