Like the kid who has his favorite toy taken away by his parents and then exclaims “I didn’t want it anyway!,” Chris Sligh now reveals that he never wanted to win the ‘American Idol’ competition and had in fact considered quitting the contest earlier but wanted to secure a spot in the Top Ten.
In an interview with The Greenville News on Thursday, Sligh said “I never came into this wanting to win it, I made the Top Ten. That was my goal.”
By achieving his “goal” Sligh will now be part of the ‘American Idol’ tour that takes place in the summer. Along with the added exposure a tour offers, Sligh will also pick up a check for his part in the cash cow event.
The 28-year-old South Carolina native went on to tell the newspaper that "I wanted to be able to make music for my living, so I don't have to work at the marketing company that I was working at."
Sligh was voted off ‘American Idol’ after he struggled through his rendition of “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” from the Police.
