The Detroit Tigers Kenny Rogers will likely miss the first half of the upcoming baseball season after having surgery to remove a blood clot from his left shoulder on Friday. The 42-year-old lefty was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday but will likely be out until July while his arm heals. As part of the surgery Rogers had damaged arteries repaired.
Rogers went 17-8 last year for the resurgent Tigers who finished the regular season 95-67 and earned a trip to the World Series.
Detroit will move reliever Chad Durbin into the rotation. Rogers had been scheduled to pitch in the Tigers second game of the season, a duty that will now fall to Nate Robertson. Jeremy Bonderman will be the opening day starter as Durbin will take the role of fifth starter.
