Knowing Whether You Need an Immigration Attorney

Immigrating to the United States is a complex process, layered in ways you may not even fully understand. And so, while there are many bits and pieces you may be able to tackle yourself, it’s first important to know what, exactly, all of them are, so you can make that case-by-case determination. (After all, you can’t know whether you’re qualified to do something if you don’t know what it is you may need to be able to do.)

The first step for most immigrants is applying for a visa. But this is not necessarily an easy get for you, and even if you have the time, effort and money to secure for yourself a visa, not all visas even allow you more than a 30-day stay. And rest assured, getting one for yourself for a longer period of time will require more work – and legal help.

In this respect, immigration attorneys would surely be able to help.

Applying for a visa for your fiancé, should you already be a citizen or have a visa, is another process that often necessitates immigration attorneys. This is particularly true because individuals, in fact, cannot represent themselves in the various offices required to secure for their betrothed legal access to this country.

In that case, your hands may be limited.

One last item, and maybe the most important, is helping you prepare for interviews and tests required for you to attain your citizenship. This isn’t to say that you’ll be judged by U.S. immigration officials as you would, say, in a job interview. But with as much on the line as there is likely for you if you’re trying to establish citizenship for you, yourself, or loved ones, it’s probably in your best interests to represent yourself as best you can.

Though immigration attorneys can be helpful for far more than that alone.
