Greek Ship and Ukrainian Crew Held by Somali Pirates Freed

Somali pirates have released a Greek ship and its Ukrainian crew after the owners of the vessel paid an undisclosed sum in ransom.

According to the pirates the Athens-based owners of the Ariana paid nearly $3 million to free the ship but that figure has not been confirmed. The Ariana and its crew had been held since May after pirates seized the ship while it sailed southwest of the Seychelles.

The sailors are expected to be flown back to the Ukraine and the ship has already been abandoned by the pirates.
