Greg Oden finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds while Mike Conley Jr. added 15 points and 6 assists as the number one seeded Ohio State Buckeyes beat the number two seeded Georgetown Hoyas 67-60 to advance to the NCAA championship game on Monday.
The Buckeyes relied on Conley throughout the first half as Oden was forced to sit after picking up his second foul less than three minutes into the game. Conley scored 11 in the opening frame to give Ohio State a 27-23 lead at the break.
Georgetown opened the second half on an 8-4 burst to tie the score and Jessie Sapp gave them a 34-33 lead with a three-pointer. Ohio State then staged their own run with a 9-2 sprint and moved back in front 42-36 with 12:10 left in the game.
Roy Hibbert then scored the next five points for the Hoyas and Jonathan Wallace tied the game once more with a triple from Jonathan Wallace. The Buckeyes rattled off seven straight and never allowed the Hoyas to get any closer than four the rest of the way.
Oden scored all of his points in the second half as he held his own against the Hoyas big-man Hibbert. Roy finished with 19 points but pulled down just 6 rebounds as he faced foul trouble of his own and was forced to sit for stretches of the game.
The most glaring difference in the game came from the free-throw line. As the Buckeyes hit 13 of their 19 from the line for 68 percent the Hoyas went to the line just 8 times and hit three from the stripe.
Ohio State will now face the winner of the Florida Gators UCLA Bruins game in the NCAA championship game.
