The third session of Grosvenor UK Poker Tour or GUKPT ended recently. It came out to be a major event when all the winners of 2009 participated in it. Out of total 125 participants 63 were qualified for payments and shared £100,000. Out of these 63 French player Thomas Besnier, the champion of Summer Series bagged the 59th with an earning of £250 £. Karl Mahrenholz was in the 50th position and earned £205 and Nik Persaud was in 40th place with an earning of £250. Finally, Tony Cascarino in 37th position earned £250 and Dave Coclough managed the 19th slot with £750 in his pocket. But it was Haitao Wu (also known as Colin), the Scot with a Chinese origin came out as the Champion of the Champions.
GUKPT was started in 2007 with Blue Square Poker and G Casinos and it takes place in different casinos in UK and online. It created quite a sensation in its first year when it was televised and attracted huge media attention. The tournament produced some great UK-based poker players as well.
2010 January will see the fourth season of GUKPT. Leg 1 will take off on January 18 and will run through January 24 with the main events during January 22-24. It has now become the most sought after tournament for poker players from France. Low buy-in (in the range of £100 to £500) and the structure of the tournament along with physical proximity are the factors that enthuse them to participate in the tournament. The price ratio is also the best in European circuit. In 2010 the tournament will have 8 stages and the Great Final will be held in Victoria Casino, London. The prize money will be in the tune of almost £200,000. The main tour will have 8 kegs plus a Grand Final and Champion of Champions match.
