Apollo Group Inc. (NASDAQ: APOL) said Thursday it has elected Samuel DiPiazza Jr. to its board, raising the number of directors to 14 from 13, according to Associated Press.

DiPiazza most recently served as global chief executive officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC, retiring in September 2009 after 36 years with the company. Previously he was a tax partner in the firm, specializing in mergers and acquisitions.
DiPiazza serves as a trustee of the International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation and is chairman of the Geneva-based World Business Council on Sustainable Development.
