Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana following a routine traffic stop Thursday night.
Babineaux, 28, was stopped by a Gwinnett County policeman around 10:45 p.m. The officer said he smelled marijuana in the vehicle and a search produced nearly 1 ½ ounces of the drug. He was arrested for possession with the intent to distribute as well as having an expired registration and driving without a license.
The intent to distribute charge can be brought any time more than an ounce of marijuana is found.
Despite the arrest Babineaux is expected to play on Sunday when Atlanta hosts the New Orleans Saints in what is considered a must-win game for the Falcons.
