College Football News: Brian Kelly Begins First Day as New Head Coach at Notre Dame

One day after it was announced that Brian Kelly would be the new head coach at Notre Dame the two-time Big East coach of the year met with the Fighting Irish players during a brief meeting Friday morning.

Kelly, who led the Cincinnati Bearcats to a perfect 12-0 record, Big East title and berth in the Sugar Bowl, spent about 25 minutes with Notre Dame players. The new coach did not speak with media following the meeting nor did any of the players.

He will be introduced as the new coach on Friday afternoon during a press conference.

As for the Bearcats, offensive coordinator Jeff Quinn will man the sideline when they face the Florida Gators on Jan.1. Several Cincinnati players were upset with the news that Kelly had taken the Notre Dame job. Among the most upset was wide receiver Mardy Gilyard who walked out of a team meeting with Kelly on Thursday.
