Palm Oil Producers Asian Plantations Limited to go Greener

Singapore-incorporated Asian Plantations Limited, a palm oil production company with operations in Sarawak, Malaysia has plans to construct their own on-site crushing mill. The development would make the eco-friendly production of the edible oil even greener than it is at present. Palm oil is made from fresh fruit bunches that are crushed and processed into the final product. For the time being, the mill is located 50 miles from the main plantation.

While the distance seems miniscule considering the length many food products travel before being sold into stores, Asian Plantations is keenly aware of the effect such distances can have over time. Clearly, the company intends to be around for quite some time, already making plans to expand it’s nearly 5,000 acre plantation to 20,000 acres by the close of 2011.

Asian Plantations believes that the demand for its product is on the rise and will continue to flourish as word spreads West regarding its heart healthy attributes and inexpensive production costs. Palm oil is already a staple in the diets of the Eastern and developing world, in addition to being an ingredient in Western products such as cake mixes, ramen noodles, soaps and shampoo.

The company expects that palm oil will gain greater recognition in Western cuisine once it’s health and environmental benefits become more widely known.
