Singapore-incorporated palm oil company, Asian Plantations Limited is thinking toward the future with its eco-friendly venture set for expansion over 2010 and 2011. The company intends to expand it’s nearly 5,000 acre plantation in Sarawak, Malaysia to 10,000 acres by the close of 2010 and reach 20,000 acres by 2011.

The decision to expand is based upon the company’s confidence that palm oil, which is likened to coconut oil without the trans fat, will expand beyond it’s uses primarily in the East. Palm oil has been a staple of the Eastern diet for over and century and ubiquitous in the cuisine of developing nations as a result of its low production costs.

Low production costs, the lowest of any edible oil, hold global appeal but what is most likely to inspire further demand of the product is the absence of trans fat from the product. Palm oil has been shown to have positive effects on the heart in addition to being positive for the environment.

Asian Plantations calls the harvesting of palm oil “the sweet spot of agricultural investing,” sure that it’s combination of heart and eco-friendliness will become popular in India, Western Europe and the United States.
