Attacks in Afghanistan Leave at least 16 Policemen Dead

At least 16 policemen in Afghanistan have been killed in two separate attacks believed to be carried out by Taliban militants.

The attacks, occurring at about the same time, targeted police posts in the northern province of Baghlan and the southern province of Helmand. In each attack eight policemen were killed.

Both posts, designed to provide protection for military convoys, are said to be back in the control of security forces.
