Tayshaun Prince scored 24 points and Chris Webber added 10 points and 10 boards as the Detroit Pistons (48-26) surged in the second half to beat the Indiana Pacers (32-42) 100-85.
The Pacers jumped to a 20-6 lead early in the first six minutes of the first quarter but over the final six Indiana could only manage another six points as the Pistons cut their deficit to five and trailed at the end of the opening period 26-21.
Indiana bumped their lead back to 14 in the second quarter and led 44-30 with 4:20 remaining in the half but Detroit closed the half on a 13-2 run to climb to within three, 46-43, at the break.
In the third quarter Detroit worked their way back even and were able to pull ahead midway through the period. The Pistons put the game away with a 19-6 run to close the quarter.
Detroit led by as many as 23 in the fourth before easing back on the Pacers. It was the third straight win for the Pistons while the loss dropped the Pacers two games behind the Orlando Magic for the eight spot in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.
Jermaine O’Neal led the Pacers with 20 points and 7 rebounds.
The Pistons have a 3 ½ game cushion over the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top seed in the playoffs with just eight games remaining in the regular season.
