Amare Stoudemire scored 27 points, Shawn Marion had 17 and 12 rebounds and Steve Nash finished with 15 points and 17 assists as the Phoenix Suns (56-18) beat the Memphis Grizzlies (19-57) 116-111 for their third straight win.
Phoenix opened up a twelve point lead in the first quarter but the Grizzlies clawed their ay back and used a 25-12 run to take a 36-31 lead after one.
The Suns used an 11-2 run in the second quarter to go up 53-48 with 4:28 left in the half. Phoenix then closed the second on an 18-9 run and went into the locker room with a 71-59 lead. Leandro Barbosa scored 14 of his 24 points in the second quarter to help the Suns grab a commanding lead.
Memphis fought their way back and by the tie Pau Gasol dropped his second free-throw at the end of the third the Grizzlies were trailing by just one, 89-88.
Not wanting to let the game slip away Phoenix quickly buried three three-pointers to start the fourth and pushed their lead back to ten. Once again the Grizzlies stormed back and when Chucky Atkins hit a driving layup with 7:09 in the game the Suns lead was down to 102-101. Stoudemire, who had already scored the Suns last four points, scored Phoenix’s next seven to make the score 109-102 with 4:05 in the game.
The Grizzlies were able to get as close as three with a minute remaining but the Suns sealed it from the line.
Hakim Warrick finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds while Gasol added 23 points and 11 boards in the loss.
