LeBron James returned to action and scored 31 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and handed out 6 assists to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers (45-30) past the Minnesota Timberwolves (31-43) 101-88. James sat out Sunday’s loss against the Boston Celtics with a sore knee but appeared healthy enough to torch the struggling T-wolves.
Minnesota started hot and held a quick 14-10 lead but the Cavaliers ran off 15 straight points as the Timberwolves went scoreless for nearly eight minutes and fell behind 25-14. James scored 15 points in the opening frame to give Cleveland a 33-21 lead after one.
The Timberwolves used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to cut the Cavaliers advantage to four but Cleveland never allowed Minnesota any closer.
Cleveland boosted their lead to 62-49 four minutes into the third quarter and then used an 8-0 run to push their advantage to 74-56 with two and a half remaining on the clock.
The fourth quarter brought no relief for the Timberwolves as they dropped their fourth in the last five games. Kevin Garnett finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
