ChristiaNet.com (http://www.christianet.com), the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, conducted a survey asking readers to respond to the question, "Should Christians use ecards for evangelism?" The majority of participants agree that opportunities to spread the gospel should be taken advantage of whenever possible. One reader said, "It is a good source of ministry, where it is possible to touch lives in places you've never been before." Free ecards can be a good way of showing someone the love of Christ.
The Internet has provided a method of witnessing to people in distant places who have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Out of 197 readers polled, 160 seem to believe this message wholeheartedly. Online Christian evangelism reaches people all over the world. God uses lots of different ways to reach others. One participant wrote, "Ecards carry unlimited writing space, they are sent fast and you can send as many as you like."
Nine people answered "no" to the polled question. One person felt that establishing a personal relationship with a person is the best way to portray Christian evangelism. Another compared sending free ecards to giving a person a Bible as a gift when they aren't ready to be converted. The overall consensus with this group seems to be that sincerity is the most important way to evangelize and that may not be properly communicated with a card. One person feels that email is a more sincere way of communicating online. It might be worthy to note that emoticons are often used in online correspondence to properly convey the message of the author.
Twenty-eight participants were unsure about using free ecards for Christian evangelism. There is some concern with this group about offending others who are of a different faith or religion. One Believer said, "I believe in freedom of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes a card is sent to give others a word of encouragement." Another person made the point that if ecards were sent in massive mailings indiscriminately they could be considered spam. While there are some differences of opinion on this survey question, many participants seem to agree, Christians should listen to the Holy Spirit when evangelizing. Christians everywhere need to remember the words of Jesus about spreading the gospel. For more information, visit: http://www.christianet.com/christianecards/
