Dr. Charles Lee founded Polyglot Systems Inc. in 2001 in order to help those 26 million Americans who can’t communicate in English effectively receive help from the US health care community. Polyglot’s mission is to deliver solutions that eliminate these barriers in communication that permeate the healthcare system.
On December 3rd, Polyglot Systems, Inc. issued a press release that stated Dr. Lee was appointed to a consulting role with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. His new role gives him the ability to take huge steps in achieving the goals of his company. He will be consulting with the Risk Communication Advisory Committee on different strategies and programs designed to improve communication for patients with low health literacy and language barriers.
These barriers in communication could lead to delays in health care, operational inefficiencies, over utilization of resources, and increased length of stay. This creates frustration for both staff and patients. Language barriers prevent the LEP community from equal access to services and expose organizations to risk of litigation.
With the large number of Americans who are healthcare illiterate, this is a major necessity and one that Dr. Charles Lee is perfect for. He has received several SBIR grants from the National Institutes of Health to improve healthcare communication and reduce disparities of information access for minority populations. Dr. Lee received an the People’s Choice Award in 2003 for his work at Polyglot Systems, Inc. at the Council for Entrepreneurial Development’s InfoTech.
Polyglot Systems’ software is designed to improve patient understanding and effectively improve health, reduce costs and increase patient satisfaction. The award winning software and their products have all been licensed to hospitals, health systems, clinics, pharmacies and public health departments all over the country.
