Evangelist Oral Roberts Dies at 91

Evangelist Oral Roberts has died. Roberts, the founder of the Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association and Oral Roberts University, passed away Tuesday of complications from pneumonia. He was 91.

Roberts’ spokeswoman Melany Ethridge released a statement saying he died in his Newport Beach, California home with his son and daughter at his side.

Roberts was hospitalized Monday for a fall over the weekend in which he suffered broken bones.

"Oral Roberts was the greatest man of God I've ever known," his son Richard Roberts said in a statement. "A modern-day apostle of the healing ministry, an author, educator, evangelist, prophet, and innovator, he was the only man of his generation to build a worldwide ministry, an accredited university, and a medical school. His name is synonymous with miracles. And he came along when many in Christendom did not believe in God's power and goodness."

Roberts established the Evangelistic Association in 1947 and conducted more than 300 healing crusades.

A public memorial will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A private funeral will be held.
