Walmart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has donated $250,000 to the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks through the Walmart Foundation. The organization is the largest charitable response to hunger. Walmart also donated $100,000 to the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), funded by the Ohio Department of Development to help low income families pay their utility bills in Ohio.

The contributions were presented during an event at the Ohio Benefit Bank Direct Services office in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Present, was Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, Director of Operations – Ohio for Walmart Stores David Gose, and OASHF Executive Director Lisa Hamler-fugitt. The donations will be used to buy 625,000 pounds of shelf stable and nutritious foods, leverage over $1 million in state and federal funding, and enable OASHF to help enroll 7,000 new low income children.
