MLB News: Roy Halladay and Philadelphia Phillies Reportedly Strike Deal

Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies are said to have struck a three-year deal that will pay the former Cy Young award winner $20 million a year and a $20 million vesting option for 2014.

Halladay put together a 17-10 record with a 2.79 ERA in 2009 and while the Toronto Blue Jays wanted to keep their ace it was apparent they would lose him to free agency at the end of the 2010 season and they desperately wanted to get something before that happened.

The 32-year-old right-hander collected the Cy Young Award in 2003 and has finished in the top five four times while compiling a 148-76 lifetime record.

To sign Halladay the Phillies will deal Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners, ending a brief stint by the lefty who was a popular figure in Philadelphia and was clutch in the post season. Lee collected a Cy Young Award in 2008 while pitching for the Cleveland Indians.

Philadelphia mad a move for Halladay after determining they would have had a tough time keeping Lee on the team following the 2010 season. Lee is set to make $8 million next year but will become a free agent at the conclusion of the season.
