So begins the major league career of Daisuke Matsuzaka, better known in America as Dice-K. The $52 million Japanese import will take the mound today for the Boston Red Sox with hundreds of media outlets anxiously awaiting his first pitch to Kansas City Royals leadoff man David DeJesus.
The 26-year-old Dice-K came over to the Red Sox from the Seibu Lions of the Japanese Pacific League. Boston shelled out over $51 million just for the bidding rights to negotiate with the phenom who had accumulated a 108-60 record in eight seasons with a 2.95 ERA.
Dice-K went 1-1 in spring training with a 2.04 ERA and is being looked upon as a key component to the Red Sox drive to another World Series title.
