North American BlackBerry users were faced with email delays on their devices. Maker of the popular phones, Research In Motion Ltd., said technicians were working on the problem, adding that users could still make phone calls, browse the Internet and send and receive text messages.
The centralized structure of RIM’s system is generally reliable, but also means that any problems can affect millions of users.
The company is expected to release quarterly earnings this afternoon.
Shares of Research in Motion were down 25 cents to $68.14.
