Tiger Woods’ pursuit of a fifth green jacket got off to a slow start in day one at The Masters, as the world’s number one golfer bogeyed his final two holes to close the round with a 1-over 73. Things didn’t look much brighter for Woods on day two as he opened his second round with a bogey on the first hole. He then collected bogeys on four and seven and was all of a sudden 4-over and heading towards the unthinkable, missing a cut.
The entire second round for Woods was an experience of inconsistency. Tiger bogeyed six holes in the round but also managed to collect four birdies to keep him within sight of the leaders, finishing the day with a 2-over 74 to put him at 3-over thru two rounds.
At this stage of round two the most impressive scores of the day came from a pair of European golfers who had an awful day one. Irishman Padraig Harrington followed a 5-over 77 in the first round with a 4-under 68 in the second round to sit at ninth on the leaderboard while Englishman Paul Casey shaved 11 strokes from his day one total to come in at a 4-under 68 and is now 3-over. Casey had a chance to record a 5-under but bogeyed on 18.
The top of the leaderboard continues to shift with yesterdays leaders Brett Wetterich 2-under after completing his second round and Justin Rose at 2-under (+1 rd 2) after seven holes of play. South African Tim Clark is at 2-under (-1 rd 2) after 17 as is Henrik Stenson (-1 rd 2) after nine. Zach Johnson has actually grabbed the lead with a 3-under total (-2 rd 2) after 13.
