Mobile phones are helping consumers find the best deal in town this holiday season. Software application’s on Apple’s iPhone and its counterparts are making the quest for a bargain easier than ever. Buyers can look up prices at competing retailers and use the evidence to talk down the price at the register.
One in five shoppers said they planned to use involve their cell phones in their holiday shopping according to a 2009 survey by Deloitte. Retailers are responding to the news, streamlining the mobile editions of their websites to make eliminate excessive typing on the way to the digital register.
Digital cross-shopping is changing the way people make their purchases and the way retailers interact with their customers. Where it would once be out of the ordinary to haggle at a traditional retail store, the knowledge that a customer can look up and pursue another deal in a matter of moments is restructuring the ball game.
Mobile applications are being specifically designed to make bargain hunting even easier, with one, called ShopSaavy standing out as the forerunner.
A costumer with ShopSaavy can scan the barcode of item and see how much it costs at other local retailers. The program will highlight the best price and may even provide its user with an online coupon to drive the cost down even further.
ShopSaavy is only one among several programs of its kind that are sure to change the way we shop and retailers sell.
