NBA Scores: Jason Kidd and Vince Carter Collect Triple-Doubles in Nets Victory Over the Wizards

Jason Kidd scored 10 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out 18 assists while Vince Carter added 46 points, 16 boards and 10 assists as the New Jersey Nets (36-40) beat the Washington Wizards (39-37) 120-114 in overtime.

Carter hit four three-pointers in the first quarter and scored the Nets first 17 points to keep them close as the Wizards finished the opening quarter with a 24-22 lead.

Backed by six three-pointers in the second quarter the Nets managed to grab a 52-51 lead at the break. Carter scored 10 in the period while Richard Jefferson scored 16 after hitting four three-pointers of his own.

New Jersey pushed their lead to 56-51 in the opening minutes of the third quarter but Washington proved they could hit three-pointers as well; knocking down three in a row and Jarvis Hayes scored ten points in less than two minutes to give the Wizards a 64-58 lead. New Jersey was able to tie the score at 65-65 after Jason Kidd scored his first points of the game on a three-pointer. Vince Carter hit another three pointer five minutes later to give the Nets the lead.

The game stayed close throughout the fourth and it looked as if Carter had locked it up for the Nets after hitting a pair of free-throws with four seconds left on the clock. Down by three the Wizards got the ball to Antawn Jamison who hit a triple with one second on the clock to force overtime.

In the extra period the Nets held the Wizards scoreless over the first three minutes and built a 112-104 lead that Washington couldn’t overcome. The win puts the Nets within three games of the Wizards for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

New Jersey hit 17 three-pointers in the game to set a franchise record and the triple-doubles from Kidd and Carter marked the first time teammates have achieved the mark since Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen hit the mark in 1989.
