Oxygen Education, LLC, a market leading developer of content for online technical education and workforce development, today announced that Ivy Tech Community College is using Oxygen Education content for its new online Technical Certificate and Associate of Applied Science Degree in Manufacturing Production and Operations. Approved by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) for a January 2010 start, the new online certificates and degrees combine existing elements of the college’s Industrial Technology and Advanced Manufacturing programs with new interactive, simulation-based training modules provided by Oxygen Education.
Each of the 14 new online courses provides self-paced, interactive learning, mentored support systems, proctored testing, and state-of-the-art technologies to prepare students for skilled manufacturing positions. Graduates will be trained in gauging and inspection equipment, CNC machine operations, metrology, tooling, quality systems, inspection techniques, lean manufacturing, and automation.
The Manufacturing Production and Operations program focuses on preparing workers who set up and operate machines, especially those in computer-controlled networks, which allow operators to tend to a number of machines simultaneously, and those that employ robots to load and upload parts from machines.
In addition to the degree program, Ivy Tech will also offer the entire Oxygen Education library of courses to business and individuals wishing to improve their skills and efficiency in any one or a combination of topics, including safety principles, shop mathematics, print reading, quality control, machine operation, and more than 40 other offerings. Ivy Tech’s Workforce and Economic Development teams will contact Indiana’s business leaders to share the value and benefit of online training for key performance improvement classes in manufacturing.
“Ivy Tech designed these new online certificate and degree programs to meet the needs of employers requiring skilled manufacturing workers and to help students advance their careers with flexible new-technology learning systems that deliver accredited, value-added competencies,” said Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder.
“Oxygen Education is pleased with the Ivy Tech agreement to provide our interactive, simulation-based training content for the new manufacturing and production operations curriculum. Our unique online content will help the college expand programs and deliver education and training more effectively,” noted Oxygen’s CEO Mike Fitzgerald.
Ivy Tech Community College is Indiana’s largest public post-secondary institution and the nation's largest singly-accredited statewide community college system with more than 130,000 students enrolled annually at campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. Ivy Tech is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
