Reuters reported that The U.S. Treasury will proceed with plans to dispose of its stake in Citigroup Inc. within the next 12 months despite a decision to opt out of the Company's share sale, the U.S. Treasury's top bailout official said. Herbert Allison, Treasury assistant secretary for financial stability, told lawmakers that the Treasury's holdings in Citigroup were valued at $26.5 billion.

Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) is amongst the top gainers. It rallied 1.88% to $26.56 on a massive volume of 29.62 million shares.  The stock has a 52-week range of $7.80-$31.53.  Wells Fargo & Company (Wells Fargo) is a financial holding company and a bank holding company. The Company is a diversified financial services company providing retail, commercial and corporate banking services through banking stores located in 39 states and the District of Columbia.    

State Street Corporation (NYSE:STT) soared 3.25% to $41.02 on a massive volume of 3.38 million shares  after upgraded to Outperform from Market Perform, $51 target, at Keefe Bruyette. The stock has a 52-week range of $14.43-$55.87. The company also announced a quarterly dividend of $0.01 per share of common stock, payable on January 19, 2010, to stockholders of record as of January 4, 2010.
