Dwyane Wade returned to the court on Sunday after missing nearly seven weeks with a dislocated shoulder but his presence wasn’t enough to stop the Charlotte Bobcats (31-47) from beating his Miami Heat (42-35) squad 111-103 in overtime.
Wade finished with 12 points and 8 assists in the game but his effort wasn’t enough as the Bobcats got 30 points and 8 rebounds from Gerald Wallace while Walter Herrmann hit a pair of three-pointers in the final minuet of overtime to earn Charlotte their 12th road win of the season.
Miami was playing from behind for most of the first three quarters as the Bobcats carried a 78-70 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Heat rattled off ten straight to grab an 80-78 advantage and it appeared as if they were on their way to earning the home win. Wallace stopped the bleeding for the Bobcats with a three-pointer to briefly hand Charlotte the lead but Miami quickly reclaimed the advantage and moved up 88-84 with 3:30 left in the quarter. Over the next two minutes the Bobcats outscored the Heat 8-1 and moved in front by three with just over a minute on the clock. Wade then hit a 17-footer to pull Miami to within one. With two seconds left Wade was on the line with a chance to win the game but hit one of two and sent the game to overtime.
In the extra period Herrmann hit a three-pointer with 42 seconds left to give the Bobcats a five point advantage and after Jason Kapono hit a jumper Herrmann dropped another triple to push the lead to six with 15 seconds and seal the game.
