A unit of conglomerate General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) will supply 100 locomotives to Transnet Freight Rail, South Africa's state-owned rail freight logistics utility, according to Associated Press.
GE South African Technologies, GE Transportation's entity in South Africa, signed a contract with Transnet Limited, TFR's parent.

The locomotives will be used to haul freight and coal, GE said Friday.
The first locomotives and kits are scheduled to be delivered in early 2011.
