The Will Ferrell – Jon Heder tandem continued to earn high marks from the judges as “Blades of Glory” skated past the the old and the new for their second consecutive week atop the box-office charts.
Bringing in another $23 million this weekend, “Blades” has now accumulated &68.4 million in its 10-day run on the big screen.
Earning the silver this weekend was Disney’s animated flick, “Meet the Robinsons.” The children’s comedy brought in $17 million to push its 10-day total to $52.2 million.
The closest a new release could get to the ice-skating movie “Blades of Glory” was from Ice Cube’s new release “Are We Done Yet?” The follow up to “Are We There Yet?” took in $15 million to top all other weekend premiers.
Finishing a disappointing fourth was the double-feature “Grindhouse.” With expectations for the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez gore-fest floating around $28 million the weekend proved the only thing scary was the films ticket sales. A paltry $11.6 million was no where near the numbers projected by the studio, and didn’t come close to the openings for Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” series or Rodriguez’s “Sin City.”
Oscar winner Hilary Swank returned to theaters with “The Reaping” to round out the top five at the ticket counter. The modern day flick about biblical plagues generated $10.1 million in sales.
