ChristiaNet.com (http://www.christianet.com), the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, polled readers on the question, "Should Christians use lawyers?" The majority of participants seem to agree that it is necessary sometimes for God's children to seek legal counsel. Christian attorneys are the best choice because every decision should be measured by God's Word. One person said, "I believe we should use everything the Lord has provided to help us through life's journey." Many feel that it really depends on the situation and the circumstances. Out of 188 responses, 161 agreed that sometimes things happen in life where legal help is needed. Christian attorneys might help with legal documents pertaining to a will or the purchase of a home. One participant commented, "There are Christian lawyers who will pray with their clients." Some in this group felt that legal counsel should only be sought as a last resort. Sometimes it is good to seek help with legal matters so one can fully understand the law. God's children should always seek to uphold the law and not be guilty of breaking it.
Eight of the participants felt that Believers should not use attorneys. One Believer felt that all problems between Christians should be resolved within the church and that forgiveness should be practiced towards everyone. "As Christians we should take criticism and accusations with a smile," said one person in this group. The overall consensus seems to be that if a Believer sues another Believer through the courts that it is a bad witness to the unbeliever and shows that our faith in God is mute.
There were nineteen people polled who were just unsure on this issue. One participant in this group felt that Christian lawyers should only be consulted in a situation where a Believer needs to be defended against false accusations. Several respondents made a point that sometimes Christian lawyers are needed for handling divorce cases. There is some controversy about divorce between Believers, but each person should seek God and look for Biblical answers. Both parties should seek every avenue for reconciliation whenever possible. Many participants seem to agree that nothing should be done hastily but instead approach any situation by prayerfully seeking God. For more information, visit: http://www.christianet.com/articles/
