Earthquake Strikes Taiwan, No Tsunami Alert Issued

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the east coast of Taiwan Saturday, shaking buildings and causing panic but no serious injuries have been reported.

 

The tremor struck about 12 miles south-east of Hualien and was felt in the capital of Taipei but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami alert.

 

According to reports the quake shook buildings for about 30 seconds before settling.
