Dutch Teenage Sailor Laura Dekker Reported Missing

While Dutch police do not suspect any criminal activity they have expressed concern after a teenage sailor, Laura Dekker, was reported missing on Friday.

Dekker, 14, has made headlines in the past for her fight to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world. Those aspirations were blocked by a Dutch court in October, ruling the expedition posed too many dangers to her life.

She had been placed under the care of the state but was allowed to continue living with her father. Dick Dekker has supported his daughter’s efforts to break the world record, currently held by Mike Perham when he was 17-years-old, but police have not said whether they believe he has anything to do with Laura’s disappearance.

An alert has been issued to airports in neighboring countries.
