NFL Scores: New England Patriots One Step Closer to AFC East Title with Win Over Buffalo Bills

Laurence Maroney rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, Tom Brady threw for 115 yards and a TD and Randy Moss had 70 yards receiving and a score on five catches and the New England Patriots (9-5) took a big step toward locking up the AFC East with a 17-10 victory over the Buffalo Bills (5-9) on Sunday.

Offense was hard to come by in the opening quarter as the Bills put the only points on the board with a 25-yard field goal from Rian Lindell and Buffalo carried a 3-0 advantage into the second. That’s when the Patriots got started though as Brady hooked up with Moss on a 13-yard touchdown pass for a 7-3 lead and with 24 seconds left in the half Maroney pounded in a score from a yard out to put New England in front 14-3 at the break.

New England added a 30-yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski in the third quarter to move in front 17-3 and the Pats defense continued to hold Buffalo’s offense. The Bills managed to cut their deficit to 17-10 when Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Lee Evans on an 11-yard TD toss with 3:02 left in the game but they wouldn’t get any closer.

Buffalo was just 2-12 on third down conversions while the Patriots were slightly better at 5-12 on those downs.
