Vince Young was 14/27 passing for 236 yards and three touchdowns, Chris Johnson rushed for 102 yards and added another 55 yards receiving, Justin Gage had a pair of TD receptions and Rob Bironas booted a 46-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Tennessee Titans (7-7) past the Miami Dolphins (7-7) 27-24 on Sunday.
Miami jumped to a 3-0 lead in the opening frame off a Dan Carpenter 23-yard field goal but Tennessee answered on their drive as Young and Gage hooked up on a 22-yard touchdown pass. That 7-3 lead was extended to 10-3 in the second quarter when Bironas kicked a 24-yard field goal and after Carpenter responded with a field goal of his own the Titans pushed their advantage to 17-6 on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Young to Gage.
Tennessee looked like they would cruise early in the third quarter as a Young found Nate Washington on a 32-yard touchdown pass to boost the lead to 24-6. Miami managed to get another field goal from Carpenter but they entered the fourth quarter trailing 24-9.
Ricky Williams pulled the Dolphins to within 24-16 on a one-yard run and the Miami defense put a clamp down on Tennessee, giving their offense a chance to tie the game. That came on a Chad Henne 2-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Fasano and a two-point conversion from Ricky Williams with 1:34 left in the game and overtime would follow.
The Dolphins won the overtime coin toss and elected to receive but Henne tossed an interception on a third down and an unnecessary roughness call on Miami gave the Titans the ball on Miami’s 27-yard-line. Tennessee failed to gain any more yards but Bironas came on and booted the 46-yard game-winner to move the Titans to .500 for the first time this year.
