Chauncey Billups scored 22 points and dished out 6 assists while Richard Hamilton added 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons (50-27) inched closer to securing home court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 91-83 victory of the fading New York Knicks (32-45).
New York came back from a 45-38 deficit at the half to take a ten point lead late in the third quarter but Chauncey Billups cut the lead to five with a three-pointer and a jumper in the closing seconds of the period.
Detroit took the lead on a Billups jumper with 2:37 remaining in the fourth quarter and the lead was bumped to seven after Richard Hamilton hit a three-pointer and Rasheed Wallace followed with a dunk.
The Knicks have now dropped four of five and are four games behind the Orlando Magic for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.
Eddy Curry and Nate Robinson each scored 24 points in the Knicks loss.
