Google Faces up to “Mistake,” Offers Apology to Sohu.com

In response to allegations surrounding the illegal implementation of protected data into a recently launched application Google has issued an apology for what they have called a “mistake.”

The “mistake” surrounds Google’s integration of a Chinese language dictionary owned by Sohu.com into a tool designed to simplify the process of entering Chinese characters for Google users.

Sohu.com, which launched a similar input method editor called Sogou last June, was tipped that their results were being used by Google. Users of the Sohu.com tool noticed the same mistakes found in the Sogou application were found in Google’s database for Gu Ge input method.

While not admitting they did anything wrong Google recognized the accusation with an apology. In a statement released by the search giant, Google said “we are willing to face up to our mistake, and offer an apology to users and to the Sohu company.”

Jason Galanis, part owner of Geomas, a company that uses patented technology to maximize search and advertising results, recently told the E-Commerce Times, “Google is both an innovator and an aggregator. This means Google has plenty of its own proprietary technology, to be sure, but it also fundamentally has had a strategy of aggregating information worldwide and combining it with other information. As part of this ‘aggregation’ model, Google also has had a historical tendency to ‘aggregate’ others’ technology or business processes as well.”
