ChristiaNet.com (http://www.christianet.com), the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, conducted a survey, asking readers, "Is today's church apostate?" Out of 172 surveyed, 93 were unsure and many didn't understand the question. One reader summed up the meaning of apostate, by stating, "The Bible talks about a great falling away from the faith in the last days and I believe we are living in them." Several of the participants felt that each church is different but that Christ must be taught as author of a Christian's faith; and faith without works is dead.
Out of 172 participants, 52 seem to believe wholeheartedly that the church is experiencing the apostasy. One reader said, "Very few rightly divide the Word and truly seek to follow the Gospel as it is revealed." Some in this group believe the church today is lukewarm, similar to the Church of Laodicea, spoken of in the Book of Revelation. Overall people in this group feel that there are some churches today that have fallen away and are doing their own thing.
Twenty-seven of the 172 participants responded "no" to this question. Some of the reasons cited with this group revealed that even though some Believers seem to be complacent, souls are still being saved, and many Christians are still faithful. One Believer said, "Not the whole church; to be honest, it happens in every generation." Many in this group have an overall outlook that there has always been apostasy in the church, even in the early days. The most important things for a Believer to do are maintain a close relationship with Christ, read the Bible, and have fellowship with other Christians.
Today's church may seem divided to many because of the vast amount of denominations. Though some participants felt that the church is not united, they weren't sure that this shows a picture of the apostasy. One concerned reader said, "The world is strong in calling for us to fall. We need to be bold in our faith and help each other to get on the right path." Christians need to be careful not to compromise with the world. Compromise can be a prelude to falling away from the faith. For more information, visit: http://www.christianet.com/bible/
