‘Dancing with the Stars’ Goes Clint Eastwood, “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”

‘Dancing with the Stars’ brought in the Paso Doble and the waltz this week and as the dances have evolved and become more elaborate the true contenders are beginning to surface. After Monday night’s show the public got a good view of the “stars” abilities as the skill level required for their dances was turned up a notch.

Laila Ali, an early favorite to take the ‘Dancing’ crown, suffered another uninspiring performance yet managed to earn sevens across the board for her Paso Doble. The judges noted that the boxing great hasn’t brought the same kind of fire that she attacked the early rounds with, a fire she’ll need if she is to get to the top.

Speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno continued to heat it up and overcame his fears about the waltz being too slow and old to score a pair of nines and a seven. The gold medal winning Olympian was criticized for his footwork by one judge but the other two raved about the chemistry between Ohno and his partner Julianne Hough.

Leeza Gibbons fell on hard time with her Paso Doble one week after earning high marks for the Tango. Gibbons dance was labeled “dull, dull, dull” as she was handeda five, five and six on the scorecards. This could be the end of Gibbons run on ‘Dancing.’

Former 90210’er Ian Ziering waltzed his way to a 24 out of 30 and received a mixed review from the judges. While Len Goodman thought it “really really good” Bruno Tonioli thought it fell flat after starting strong.

While early money is on Gibbons getting voted off there wasn’t much to write home about in John Ratzenberger’s comedic Paso Doble. None of the judges were impressed with the dance and actually left them confused. Ratzenberger totaled the same score as Gibbons, 16 out of 30.

Known throughout his NBA career as Clyde “The Glide”, Drexler brings little of his court grace to the dance floor. In fairness to Clyde a 6-foot 7-inch frame isn’t exactly the ideal for the waltz. Len Goodman questioned whether or not Drexler was even trying as it appeared as if he was walking across the floor. Gibbons and Ratzenberger may have Drexler to thank if they survive the vote as “The Glide” slid to a total of 15 with a four, five and six from the judges.

Billy Ray Cyrus continues to baffle the judges after a first week catastrophe. The country music artist has surprised everybody with strong performances the past few weeks and last night was no different. Cyrus pulled off the Paso Doble and earned sevens across the board.

Heather Mills probably had her toughest night yet but managed to pull it together and pulled the waltz off. Mills dance was the most debatable among the judges with opinions ranging from well done to over done. Regardless, Mills earned a 23 on the judges cards and will no doubt be safe.

Joey Fatone lived up to the boy-band image of carrying some dancing skills and tallied the first ten of the competition from a judge. Carrie Ann Inaba gave the former N’sync singer the mark for his efforts. Both Len and Bruno handed out nines to give Fatone the high score of the evening, 28.

The vote on tonight’s episode of ‘Dancing with the Stars”’ will probably come down to Clyde and Leeza, with Gibbons bidding adieu.
