Kevin Durant to Hold Press Conference Later Today, Expected to Declare for NBA Draft

University of Texas freshman Kevin Durant is expected to announce his intentions to enter the 2007 NBA Draft later today. Durant has scheduled a 5 p.m. ET press conference where he will settle the issue.

Durant became the first freshman to ever win the Wooden Award handed out to college basketball’s top player. The 6’9 swingman also collected the Naismith Award, Associated Press Player of the Year Award, Adolph Rupp Award, Oscar Robertson Award and NABC Award.

After averaging 25.8 points per game and 11.1 rebounds the Longhorns star left little doubt in pro scouts minds that he would be a number one or two selection in the draft.

Most believe that Durant would have entered the NBA Draft straight out of high school but a new rule implemented by the NBA now requires players entering the draft to be out of high school for at least one year before they are eligible for draft status.

The 2007 NBA Draft is scheduled for June.
