Howard A. Schmidt, former eBay and Microsoft executive, was selected by the White House to lead the cyber security effort in the U.S. Schmidt was a former Bush administration official as well, serving as vice chairman of President George W. Bush’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board. In addition, he was an adviser to the FBI and worked and the National Drug Intelligence Center.
Schmidt, who will have regular and direct access to the president for cyber security issues, was chosen because of his unique background and skills.
The selection comes over ten months since President Barack Obama declared cyber security a priority and ordered a broad administration review.
