With a difficult season behind the New York Yankees, they are looking to come back strong with some new additions to the team and make the MLB playoffs in 2014. Yankees offseason has been a whirlwind of trades, resignings and letting certain key players go. Here is a short list of these activities:
- Re-signed manager Joe Girardi to a four-year contract through the 2017 season
- Let go of second baseman Robinson Cano to the Seattle Mariners
- Biggest splash the Yankees made this offseason was in signing Jacoby Ellsbury from their rivals and defending World Series champions the Boston Red Sox
- New catcher, Brian McCann, signing a fresh 5 year deal
- Re-sign light-hitting utility infielder Brendan Ryan
- Carlos Beltran signed 3 year contract with the Yankees to replace Robinson Cano
- New York Yankees Hiroki Kuroda was resigned to pitch one more season
- Yanks signed Kelly Johnson second baseman to a one-year deal
- Acquired RHP Kyle Haynes from Pittsburgh

Yankees average attendance was down in 2013 and with all of the offseason trades and a potential playoff run the Yankees are hoping to fill more seats in 2014. In 2013 the average home game had an attendance of 40,488 and in 2012 the Yankees had the second highest attendance in the league at 43,733, which is close to an 8% decrease year over year. Part of the reason for the decreased attendance was due to Yankees all-stars being injured such as Derek Jeter and poor team performance.
