‘American Idol’ Says Adiós to Haley Scarnato after Latin Night Debacle

After Haley butchered a song originally recorded as a disco tune the ‘American Idol’ powers that be said adios senorita Scarnato.

Vicki Sue Robinson received a Grammy nomination for best female pop vocal when she recorded “Turn the Beat Around” in 1976. When Scarnato opted to cover the more recognizable Gloria Estefan rendition of the song on the ‘American Idol’ Latin Night she received a plane ticket home.

Scarnato turned more stomachs than beats while trying to keep pace with the high energy song. While there were several other ‘Idol’ contestants that set Latin music back about a decade it was simply Haley’s time. Even Simon Cowell told her after her performance that dressing provocatively was about the only thing that was keeping her in the competition.

Standing next to Scarnato in the Bottom Two was Phil Stacey, whose version of “Maria, Maria” was no more appealing than Scarnato’s attempt, but he managed to avoid the voters wrath and skate into the Final Seven.
