Patrick Rissmiller scored the game winner in double-overtime to lift the San Jose Sharks past the Nashville Predators 5-4 in game one of their best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series.
San Jose fought back from a 2-1 deficit in the second period and ran off three straight goals from Mike Grier, Craig Rivet and Milan Michalek to head into the third with what appeared to be a secure 4-2 lead.
Matt Carle had give the Sharks a 1-0 lead in the first before the start of the second period.
Nashville managed to cut the Sharks lead to one when Alexander Radulov scored his second goal of the game at the 13:05 mark and with 50 seconds left on the clock J.P. Dumont scored the equalizer to send it into overtime.
Rissmiller scored the winner in the second overtime after taking a perfect pass from Patrick Marleau and sneaking it past goalie Tomas Vokoun. San Jose had lost both match-ups in Nashville during the season but Wednesday night’s victory marked their fifth playoff win over the Predators dating back to last year.
San Jose will carry their 1-0 series lead into Friday’s match-up in Nashville.
