Kurt Vonnegut, author of ‘Slaughterhouse-Five,” “Breakfast of Champions,” “Cat’s Cradle’ and several other novels, passed away at the age of 84.
A World War II vet, Vonnegut was taken prisoner at the Battle of the Bulge. While prisoner he stayed with other POWs in an underground meat locker dubbed slaughterhouse-five. Drawing from his personal experiences after surviving the bombing of Dresden, Vonnegut penned the critically acclaimed “Slaughterhouse-Five.”
Vonnegut was a master of blending satire in his work to portray the absurdities of his themes. A self-described free thinker, Vonnegut encouraged people to challenge status quo and develop beliefs of their own.
