At least 60 million people in the U.S. have taken the H1N1 swine flu vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Despite that fact that nearly twice that number has gone to children, only 2 million, or less than two percent of that number, have gotten their second dose of the vaccine.
"We strongly believe that two doses are needed in children," says Anne Schuchat MD, director of the National Center of Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
The CDC recommends that children under age 10 get the two doses at least four weeks apart -- though a longer gap of five to six weeks is fine.
