ChristiaNet.com (http://www.christianet.com), the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, polled readers on the survey question, "Does Internet spam concern you?" The majority of people who participated in this poll are concerned about Internet security and receiving unsolicited email. One concerned reader said, "Spam can be dangerous because we don't know the source or where it can lead." The content is a concern but people are also worried about viruses. Some viruses can wipe out the hard drive on a computer where valuable files may be lost. (http://www.christianet.com/software/)
Out of 184 participants, 133 answered "yes" to the survey question. One person exclaimed, "Internet spam drives me crazy!" Many people surveyed expressed concern that their children might open up unsolicited email and be exposed to offensive material. Some individuals feel that it is "an invasion of their privacy" to receive spam. One reader was particularly concerned with receiving explicit material and disturbing messages. Some individuals feel that spam software provides some Internet security for unsolicited email.
Thirty-five readers are not concerned about unsolicited email. One participant said, "I don't worry about spam. If I don't know who the email is from, I delete it and/or spam it." Another person in this group feels that using spam software and blocking it makes the worry go away. One reader expressed that using a good spam filter helps eliminate the problem. Some helpful suggestions are: don't give out one's email address to other websites; when forwarding email, block the addresses; and don't open up email from unknown senders.
Sixteen participants were unsure about their concern for Internet security and spam. One person stated that spam software blocks all unsolicited email so there is not a problem receiving it. Another reader said, "I don't know that it concerns me, it's annoying, and most people delete it so I don't see the purpose of it." Many Believers who are concerned about spam seem to overall agree that the content for much of what is received can be described as evil and just like those who send viruses; some spammers are intent upon destruction. Unsolicited email oftentimes consists of advertisements for selling products and services. For more information, visit: http://www.christianet.com/articles/
