Manufacturers in the hot metals processing industries face many challenges relative to tracking and tracing their hot metal coils and rolls. Their ability to perform in-process tracking of their materials is critical for the overall efficiency of their manufacturing lines while the ultra-high temperatures, typically found in their plants, are prohibitive for most tracking technologies.
Current methods for barcode tracking require metal plates to be riveted onto the metal surfaces which can be expensive and time consuming. With temperatures reaching up to 600°C, typical thermal transfer printed labels tend to not offer ideal solutions due to ink and adhesion failures.
Polyonics has developed an effective method of hot metal identification in the form of a hang-tag material. The new material promises to speed up the track and trace of hot metals, dramatically reduce any damage to the metal’s surface and reduce time and rework costs.
Polyonics XF-610 is a double coated, 5 mil polyimide hang-tag material that will both survive hot metals processing temperatures and can be thermal transfer printed on both sides. The XF-610 has a high gloss white printable finish on one side and a matte white printable finish on the other to allow for different types of printing processes and imaging devices.
This new hang-tag material is designed to be hole-punched, using a mechanical die, and easily attached via a metal wire or strap. The XF-610 has also been engineered to provide enhanced tear resistance over other types of tracking solutions.
